SIMPLIFY FOOD WASTE DISPOSAL WITH A KITCHEN SINK GARBURATOR

Installation From Lynn'S!

WHAT IS A KITCHEN
Sink Garburator?

A kitchen sink garburator is a garbage disposal system installed between the underside of a sink and its trap. It uses a series of blades to slice food waste small enough to be flushed away into waste plumbing. It’s an environmentally-friendly way to dispose of waste without damaging your plumbing system.

A garbage disposal unit under your sink has many advantages. It prevents food scraps from ending up in landfills and saves you from composting them yourself. Additionally, having a kitchen sink garburator stops food from ruining your plumbing. It grinds food debris into small pieces, so it doesn’t end up blocking your pipes like if you scraped your leftovers into the drain. At Lynn’s, we install and replace kitchen sink garburators so that you can eliminate your food waste promptly and efficiently.

KITCHEN SINK
GARBURATOR Installation

If you don’t have a kitchen sink garbage disposal, there’s no better time to get one. Let us walk you through our installation process.

First, your plumber turns off the circuit breaker to your kitchen. A bucket is set under the P-trap as the drainpipes are disconnected. The sink strainer is also removed. Then it’s time to apply plumber’s putty around the flange and to press it into place. Your plumber will lay a towel in the sink and set the disposal on the flange to prevent movement.

Underneath the sink, your plumber will track the fiber gasket, backup flange, and mounting ring and slide them onto the bottom of the flange. The snap ring is installed by pulling it open and snapping it into place. The screws are then tightened firmly against the backup. Your plumber may also need to connect the disposal to the dishwasher drain. A hammer is used to knock out the drain plug, removing it from the inlet on the disposal. The wire cover plate is removed and connected to the electrical cord by matching the wire colours. Then the wires are pushed back in and reattached to the plate.

Lastly, your plumber will connect the drain. It’s done by inserting the gasket in the discharge outlet and attaching the discharge tube with the flange and bolts. The disposal is hung by aligning the three tabs with the mounting ring and using the wrench to turn and lock the tabs over the ridges. Connections are tested by placing a stopper into the sink drain and filling it with water. If there are no leaks, you are ready to go!

KITCHEN SINK GARBURATOR REPAIR

Like most appliances, garbage disposals are far from perfect. The team at Lynn’s performs some of these common repairs:

Not Turning On

Before you call us, turn the food waste disposer off and ensure the breaker/fuse is on and the outlet’s “reset” button hasn’t been pushed. Then turn it back on. If this fails, call Lynn’s!

Jammed Disposal

If the disposal doesn’t turn or you hear a humming noise, something is jamming the blades. Your plumber will need to turn off the disposal at the breaker and remove the blockage manually.

Slow Draining

Dull blades can make it difficult for a garbage disposal to grind up food. This could also be a sign of a clog, which is when you should call an expert from Lynn’s in Winnipeg.

Unpleasant Smells

If your garbage disposal stinks, food waste could be further into the drain line or deeply embedded into the unit. The professional plumbers from Lynn’s can solve this problem by disassembling the unit.

Grinding Sounds

Loud metal noises can indicate stuck debris or parts that aren’t functioning properly. You may be due for a tune-up or replacement. Ask our team about your options.

Leaks

An O-ring replacement or part tightening might be a simple fix. Other times, a leak from a sink flange can lead to costly repairs, which might make replacement more viable.

You should always call a professional to fix your kitchen sink garburator. DIY repairs can be dangerous and costly. Call Lynn’s in Winnipeg today!

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A KITCHEN SINK GARBURATOR

Having an efficient garbage disposal has many upsides. Here are some of the reasons customers at Lynn’s get kitchen sink garburators:

  • Efficiency: A garbage disposal eliminates small amounts of food debris by scraping it into your sink. You don’t need to put food into your trash can, making cooking and post-meal cleanup easier.
  • Less Landfill Waste: Using a kitchen sink garburator reduces the amount of trash going into the landfill. Using a garbage disposal is good for the environment.
  • Keeps Kitchen Drains Safe: Breaking food down into small particles and liquefying them prevents pipes from getting clogged or backed up.
  • Affordable: A garbage disposal doesn’t have high upfront costs and doesn’t come with costly repairs. Most garburators last up to 10 years.
  • Low Maintenance and Easy Operation: If you follow the manufacturer’s instructions, you won’t have any trouble with your garbage disposal. Problems are fairly minimal.
